The stirring biography of legendary Notre Dame football player and coach Knute Rockne and 'The Gip'. Pat O'Brien portrays the unforgettable Notre Dame football coach who led The Fighting Irish to a record-breaking 105 victories in 13 years. Ronald Reagan plays George Gipp (The 'Gipper'), Rockne's tragically fated gridiron discovery...
Background On The Storyboard
In the 1970s, MGM held a major auction of its archives, which also included memorabilia from Warner Bros who produced the film released in 1940. At the same time, they shipped some pieces to a shop in the basement of the MGM Hotel in Las Vegas. We were there at the time and purchased many original MBM storyboards from well-known movies. Never with a thought of selling them - just because they were interesting to look at and provided an insider's view into some of the most famous movies Hollywood ever made.
Among the storyboards we own are some from movies such as "The Story of Dorian Gray", "Little Women" (2), "The Yearling" (4), "Mutiny on the Bounty" (2), "Kismet", and finally, one from Ronald Reagan's most famous film, "Knute Rockne - All American", in which he spoke the classic, now-famous quote, "...win one for the Gipper." This film was added to the Library of Congress National Film Registry in 1997. And now you have a unique opportunity to own this important piece of American film and Ronald Reagan history and display it in your home or office.

The Story Behind The Story
Rockne, Irish win one for the late Gipper
Nov. 10, 1928
Scoreless at halftime against unbeaten and favored Army, it's the perfect time for Notre Dame coach Knute Rockne to invoke the death-bed wish of the late George Gipp, the Irish's All-American halfback in 1920. Gipp had asked Rockne that someday, when things looked tough for Notre Dame, for the coach to ask the team "to win one for the Gipper."
Rockne does. But more than his speech, it is a substitution that turns the game in Notre Dame's favor before some 85,000 fans at Yankee Stadium. With the game tied 6-6 in the fourth quarter and the Irish facing a fourth down on Army's 32-yard line, Rockne inserts Johnny O'Brien into the game. O'Brien goes long and when Johnny Niemiec hurls the pass, O'Brien catches it and falls into the end zone to give Notre Dame a 12-6 lead.
But Army isn't through, and All-American Chris Cagle leads the Cadets to the Notre Dame one-yard line with time running out. But the Irish, perhaps bolstered by the spirit of Gipp, hold the line, preserving the 12-6 upset. From somewhere up high, it is presumed that the Gipper nods his head in approval.
