Large German Barrel Organ Clock

Here's a second organ clock... when it rains, it pours. This one is located in Southern California. In 1994 it fell over when the "BIG One" hit. The alabaster dial was broken and replaced with marble, using the original porcelain cartouche numerals. The glass was also replaced at that time.

Physical: The case measures 96"h x 30"w x 15" d and is of beautiful flame mahogany. The 12" marble dial is in excellent condition.

Mechanical: The movement has brass gears and wood plates, which makes this a very early clock. The 24-30-hour movement is in running order. The bellows of this 36-pipe (wood) organ were re-leathered ten years ago, just before the earthquake. The organ movement needs some adjustment. It was running fine before and has not been readjusted since it tipped. The present owner believes he knows what needs to be done, but doesn't have the time to do it himself. He indicates that there is a pressure leak and says that he can force air into the bellows and get sound from the organ, so believes it will not be a huge deal to get the organ working again. The barrel plays six tunes. So, when the clock reaches the new hour, it strikes a bell on the movement, then engages the organ to play the next tune in the sequence. There are a "variety" of weights on this clock. The owner believes the primary organ weight to be orginal. We're not so sure about the other two, but replacing them with a matched pair would not be a difficult undertaking.

Comments: This clock will need to be crated for shipping, or you can arrange to pick it up in your truck here in Southern California. We will assist you to make those arrangements that best suit your requirements.

An excellent example of an early 20th Century barrel monkey organ.
Please see the closeup photos of the inlay. It has lifted in a number of places and will need to be restored by a knowledgeable "craftsperson" -- ain't polictically correct the greatest? (!) Veneer restoration will return this wonderful instrument to its museum-quality status. Then... don't monkey around. Take it out to the streets where others can enjoy the music!
