60" Serpentine
Grand Sonnerie 3-Wt Regulator, c.1860
Here is the largest serpentine regulator we've ever seen, let alone had the opportunity to make available to our clientele. It is a stunning piece. Unfortunately, it is in a place where it's difficult to get great photos, so look closely at what we have. If you have questions, please feel free to contact us by phone or e-mail.
Physical: The dark-stained case has the original finish and measures approximately 18"w x 60"h x 7"d. The case is in excellent condition overall. Finals, weights, pendulum, pulleys, movement are all original. There is a hairline crack in the 6" porcelain dial beteen XII and I. Often these can be cleaned with a Q-Tip and Chlorox and will pretty much disappear visually.
Mechanical: The eight-day grand sonnerie movement is in excellent running order having recently been professionally serviced. The movement is held on wood mounts, which places the clock prior to 1870. Serpentine clocks were common in the 1850-1885 era, but it wasn't until about 1870 that movements were attached to the case with cast metal mounts. This clock is from the period prior to 1870... we'd place it about 1860.
Comments: This is truly a "long-drop" regulator; a stunning piece just waiting for the right place in your home or office. And it's a LOT of clock for the money, too. Give us a call to get it started on its way to you.

Beautiful Lenzkirch 2-Wt Vienna Regulator, c.1880
(s/n 438709)
We've always got our ears to the ground for Lenzkirch regulators as they are of high quality and always in demand. So we were delighted to find this one to offer to you. It's a beauty. Click to read the Lenzkirch History. Note: these photos were taken in a room with lots of flourescent bulbs that gave a "greenish" light/reflection... it's the lights, not the clock!
Physical: The walnut and ebonized case measures 14.5"w x 49"h x 6.75"d. It has the ORIGINAL FINISH that has been rubbed out and French-polished. It's in beautiful condition. The top is very old, but we're not sure if it's original to the case... could be. We doubt the hands are original to this clock... it's common to find them changed in the last 120+ years; and easily remedied. Pulleys appear to be original. The 6.5" diameter porcelain dial is in excellent original condition as well.
Mechanical: The two weight, time-strike signed Lenzkirch movement strikes the half-hour and the hour on a circular gong. The movement has been overhauled and is in excellent running order, ready for many years of enjoyment. Its serial number is 438709, which places its year of manufacture at 1880.
Comments: This is not a lot of money for a Lenzkirch clock. It's a fine design that will compliment any decor, and one we know will become an heirloom in your family.

Unusual 2-Wt Transitional Vienna Regulator
With Pull Repeater, est. c.1860
New Photos Added
Before you view this listing, let us say that the photos are pretty lousy and don't do the clock justice... by a long shot!
Physical: The case measures 13"w x 48"h x 6.5"d; Origin: Germany; Overall physical condition: Very good to Excellent (age-appropriate) 6.5" diameter dial has two almost imperceptible hairlines in the center(original). Note the fancy brass bezel. There is also a paper label on the back of the dial... kind of dark.
Mechanical: Eight-day two-weight movement with extremely heavy plates has been serviced, is in excellent running condition, and is ready for years of service for you. The movement is original to the case. "Pull Repeater" action is something we don't often see. It is stamped 2729, though we suspect that's not a serial number. There is a beat-adjustment knob on the pendulum hanger.
Beat Plate:
Also, a very unusual and desirable porcelain beat plate is signed: "A. Eppner & Co., Königsberg & Lähn" We were fortunate to have a very knowledgeable man visit our site and provide us the following info. Our thanks to John Dyall.
Königsberg was the capital of East Prussia and there are a number of towns called Lähn, including one not too far from Königsberg, so one might imagine A. Eppner had his workshop in Königsberg and another branch in Lähn. There is also another Lähn in Silesia.
Later there was a company called E. Eppner, which had a Taschenuhren-fabrik (pocket watch factory) in the Lähn in Silesia. Our researcher said he could not find any particular link between the two names (A. Eppner and E. Eppner), but perhaps they were related.
To make a long explanation short, the beat plate really adds the crowing touch to this clock! It's one of the most unusual Vienna Regulators we've offered in a long time and priced very fairly.

We've taken photos of this clock a couple of times, both with poor lighting, both with poor lighting circumstances, and/or lousy backgrounds and/or surrounded by other items on the wall. We have edited those extraneous items out to the base of our ability without editing pixel-by-pixel.

Curved-Top 2-Wt Vienna Regulator
Here's a nice original 2-weight regulator for your consideration...
Physical: The walnut-veneered case has the original finish and wavy glass. It measures 15"w x 48"h x 5.75" d and is in good original (age-appropriate) condition, with some crazing in the finish. It could use a good a good rub-out polishing. We like "Spruce-It-Up!" for this purpose, which you used to be able to find at tradingpostco.com, but we understand their website is down at present, so try 978-597-6887 or fax 978-597-0332. With a soft cloth it does wonders for crackled finishes. We used it on the big tallcase tubular clock in our entry and it took the finish back to its original (clean) color and smoothed it out, too. The original wall "standoff" knobs are not in the full-length photo, but you can see them sitting inside the case in the second pendulum photo.
Mechanical: The eight-day time-and-strike movement strikes on the half hour and the hour. It is being professionally overhauled at present and will be in great running order when the clock is shipped to you. The serial number 74307 is stamped into the back of the movement, but it is not signed (typical of the period). Note: There are extra holes in the backboard near the movement, so we cannot guarantee that this movement is original to the clock.
Comments: This is a nice, "un-messed-with" clock that can provide you with years of delight. Give us a call to make your arrangements!
