Beautiful Lenzkirch 2-Wt Vienna Regulator, c.1880
(s/n 438709)
We've always got our ears to the ground for Lenzkirch regulators as they are of high quality and always in demand. So we were delighted to find this one to offer to you. It's a beauty. Click to read the Lenzkirch History. Note: these photos were taken in a room with lots of flourescent bulbs that gave a "greenish" light/reflection... it's the lights, not the clock!
Physical: The walnut and ebonized case measures 14.5"w x 49"h x 6.75"d. It has the ORIGINAL FINISH that has been rubbed out and French-polished. It's in beautiful condition. The top is very old, but we're not sure if it's original to the case... could be. We doubt the hands are original to this clock... it's common to find them changed in the last 120+ years; and easily remedied. Pulleys appear to be original. The 6.5" diameter porcelain dial is in excellent original condition as well.
Mechanical: The two weight, time-strike signed Lenzkirch movement strikes the half-hour and the hour on a circular gong. The movement has been overhauled and is in excellent running order, ready for many years of enjoyment. Its serial number is 438709, which places its year of manufacture at 1880.
Comments: This is not a lot of money for a Lenzkirch clock. It's a fine design that will compliment any decor, and one we know will become an heirloom in your family.

Curved-Top 2-Wt Vienna Regulator
Here's a nice original 2-weight regulator for your consideration...
Physical: The walnut-veneered case has the original finish and wavy glass. It measures 15"w x 48"h x 5.75" d and is in good original (age-appropriate) condition, with some crazing in the finish. It could use a good a good rub-out polishing. We like "Spruce-It-Up!" for this purpose, which you used to be able to find at tradingpostco.com, but we understand their website is down at present, so try 978-597-6887 or fax 978-597-0332. With a soft cloth it does wonders for crackled finishes. We used it on the big tallcase tubular clock in our entry and it took the finish back to its original (clean) color and smoothed it out, too. The original wall "standoff" knobs are not in the full-length photo, but you can see them sitting inside the case in the second pendulum photo.
Mechanical: The eight-day time-and-strike movement strikes on the half hour and the hour. It is being professionally overhauled at present and will be in great running order when the clock is shipped to you. The serial number 74307 is stamped into the back of the movement, but it is not signed (typical of the period). Note: There are extra holes in the backboard near the movement, so we cannot guarantee that this movement is original to the clock.
Comments: This is a nice, "un-messed-with" clock that can provide you with years of delight. Give us a call to make your arrangements!

26.5” Subminiature “ RA ” Regulator w/4” Dial
 |
|
*Seldom do we accept RA regulators for listings as most are either too pedestrian or in such bad shape. This little prize is an exception to the rule... all 26.5" of it! Take a look for yourself...
Physical: The case measures 9"w x 26.5" x 5"d. The porcelain dial, which is in excellent condition measures only 4" in diameter. There is also a nice porcelain beat plate
Mechanical: The eight-day RA (retard/advance) spring-driven movement was professionally serviced and is in excellent running order.

Comments: The whole gig with this clock is about "tiny". If you've been seeking a tiny little Vienna-type clock, this one fits the bill. It's a real charmer. Perhaps for the powder room? You know where it will fit best!

*About the photos: This is another clock where the background was horiffic. We've done our best to cut out most of the latticework that was behind the clock and try to give you a better look at the clock and not the background. So please forgive us if you struggle with the extra stuff around the edges of the photos... sometimes that time-consuming process makes the edges a bit fuzzy... or rough. But this clock is a smooth as can be!

Budget-Priced Signed “ Dwarf ” Austrian
2-Weight Vienna Regulator
This is a very pretty little clock. You need to know up front that it appears to be a "marriage", i.e., the movement may not be original to this case as there are two sets of mounting holes (both which match the movement), plus three extra holes behind the movement. The bottom finials are not original to the case (see note below). However, if you are looking for a cute, small Vienna regulator and are not particularly picky about the "marriage thing", then this would be a nice clock for the money. "In person", it is a very pretty clock... and doesn't take up a lot of wall space, either. The signed dial makes it all the more attractive.
We received a call from a local family who just moved into an ultra-modern new home where this inherited clock and a couple of others just don't work with the style of the home. So they asked us to find a "good home" for their parents' clocks. Good opportunity for you!
We have just had new walnut finials made for this clock that are appropriate to the style... not klunkers like you see now. The case and finials are at our restorer so the finials can be stained to match the case. We'll update the photos as soon as we have the clock back in our possession.
Physical: The walnut case meaures 12.5"w x 37"h x 6.25"d and is in very good overall condition. There is some minor veneer loss above the dial (see photos), but it is not a huge detractor. The crown is attached and appears to be original to the clock as does the bottom finial. The glass has been replaced. It's a very pretty little clock. You will need to replace the wall standoffs, which can be ordered from timesavers.com for very little. One of the existing standoffs is broken; they come in pairs. We're not sure if the bob is original, but it looks appropriate to the clock.
The 5.25" dial is signed, "Carl Pötzl GRAZ", who was likely the jeweler who first sold the clock. Graz is located in Austria.
Mechanical: It appears that the movement was moved about a quarter of an inch to the right as there are two identical sets of mounting holes. Look at the photos and you will see three other holes beind the movement. Those don't make sense to us as most movements would be mounted with four screws, not three, that's why we suspect this could be a "marriage".
The eight-day time and rod-strike movement runs fine. We put it on the wall and hung the weights. It started immediately and ran for several hours before we took it down to take photos of another clock.
Comments: This is a very cute little Vienna that will bring a lot of joy to someone for not a lot of money... will that someone be you?
